To be a professional and effective training adviser and provider in developing practitioners of banking and financial services industry to enable them to function effectively in an evolving financial services environment.

 

The Institute of Bankers Malaysia (IBBM) is devoted to providing world class education and learning services as part of its mission to develop talent in the banking and financial services industry. We aim to be at the forefront in the advancement of banking education and learning services; and are taking quantum leaps to reshape the banking education landscape through innovations in the delivery of our value propositions.

Established in November 1977 as the professional educational body for the banking and financial services industry in Malaysia, IBBM is governed by a Council comprising representatives from Bank Negara Malaysia (Central Bank of Malaysia), the Association of Banks in Malaysia, Association of Finance Companies of Malaysia and the Malaysian Investment Banking Association.

The role of IBBM is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills through :

Education
Professional qualification is an effective aid to career development, providing formal recognition of both competency and capability. IBBM offers industry focused professional qualifications both through its own curriculum and awards, and in collaboration with renowned business schools, universities, professional institutes, and specialised agencies to facilitate the transfer of international best practices and knowledge.

Training
IBBM’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes provide a training progression that systematically equips participants with the skills they need as they progress in their careers. Not only are our programmes localised, customised and comprehensive, they cater to various levels in the banking and financial services sector.
The Institute continues to design, develop and deliver CPD programmes that are based on the training needs of the industry and are in line with the Banking and Industry Competency Framework in order to enhance our learning, educational and qualification portfolios to better serve the banking and financial services industry.
IBBM’s CPD programmes cover a host of specialist areas including Audit, Compliance, Credit, Islamic Banking, Risk Management, Treasury and Investment, and Bank Operations.

Information
IBBM disseminates information on banking and financial services via thought leadership events, as well as print, electronic and online media.
Our online resource centre offers a variety of resource collections including e-books, e-catalogues, digital collections and e-articles. A physical Resource Centre that provides a quality range of industry relevant resource titles is also available at our Kuala Lumpur office.
IBBM has also leveraged on technology for the delivery of our programmes through “IBBM Online”, a Learning Management System (LMS) that provides a virtual education and learning environment that facilitates and promotes self-directed learning.

Advisory Services
IBBM also plays the role of training adviser to assist financial institutions or finance related organisations in identifying areas for staff professional development, and proposing the relevant training solutions.
We have also established advisory committees under our IBBM Networking Groups with an aim to provide a platform for professional exchange of views and ideas to enhance effectiveness and importance of respective functions in financial institutions.

Institutional Membership
Institutional membership is open to Bank Negara Malaysia; licensed banks; merchant banks; finance companies; banking and finance companies and investment banks; development banks; co-operative banks; representative offices of foreign banks; discount houses and money brokers. It is also open to other institutions at the discretion of the Council.
